AEP Foundation gifts $250,000 to Muncie Children’s Museum to fund expansion of Discovery Park

The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation made an impactful donation when the our newest exhibit, Discovery Park, opened in 2017. Once again, they are generously supporting the expansion of the exhibit, with Indiana Michigan Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, giving a $250,000 grant from the American Electric Power Foundation to our “More to Explore” capital campaign.

“Supporting this expansion by the Muncie Children’s Museum helps encourage an interest in learning at an early age, which is perfectly aligned with our foundation’s focus on improving lives through education,” said Rob Keisling, Indiana Michigan Power’s External Affairs Manager. “The museum continually serves as an anchor for education and exploration for families across the community and we are happy to be a part of that.”

This gift continues to move the Children’s Museum forward in our capital campaign. One focus of the “More to Explore” campaign is to fund the expansion of the Discovery Park exhibit, which includes an expanded nature area, refurbished ant wall, and new water table.

“The continued support from AEP is very special to MCM in a way that aligns our focus areas of early education and STEM. The outcome will allow kids to experience science through hands-on activity and play,” said MCM Director of Development, Ashlee Anderson.

With this gift from the AEP Foundation and continued community support, we are on target to reach our goal in 2022, expanding our creative learning space for the children of Muncie and beyond!
